Print news has had a turbulent time recently. New Day launched and closed, drastic cuts were made at The Daily Telegraph and just when everyone thought it was time to back out, the new 'Northern' newspaper, 24, launches. What's going on?!
This article by Guardian columnist Peter Preston is a really interesting take on how the decline of print media is potentially just part of the life cycle. A trend, like any other, which is currently not as popular as it once was. Key to its future is innovation and reinvention, which in part will fall to those who feed the media. PR has to address this change and help push news and communication on, making it relevant for its readers. People will always want stories, it's just deciding how we want to hear them.
Print papers may not be the long-term answer, but they are part of the present answer.
