“Disenfranchised readers of national newspapers looking for a less expensive alternative to London-centric titles” will be in for a treat with a new paper set to launch on June 20th.
Aptly titled '24', the tabloid-style paper aims to give politically neutral coverage on national news but will target those living north of Derbyshire. After the quick demise of the last new national newspaper to launch, New Day, the publishers of 24 know they are taking a huge risk but they believe they are onto a winner with 24.
Will news stories be given a straight-talking 'northern' point of view and treatment that contrasts squarely with the southerner-centric national press? One would hope so. Hopefully the paper will also include plenty of original content including op-eds from northern dwelling politicos, writers and persons of interest. The paper is sure to provoke a huge amount of interest from advertisers and from fellow national and regional media groups alike and hopefully northerners will not only root for it but will buy it so that it goes the full distance.
